Petco group

(Joey, Cosette, Trouble, & Vixen)

In October of 2007, we received a call from the manager of the DeKalb

Petco.

A group of four ferrets had been turned in to them for adoption--but all

were very sick and thin. They weren`t eating much at all. She was

worried about their condition and wondered if we could take them in. They

needed help.

They all appeared to be 3 1/2 to 4 years old and Joey appeared to be going

adrenal. We weren`t certain, in October, if this was seasonal fur loss,

improper nutrition, or adrenal disease. Now we know... Joey has adrenal

gland disease. He is absolutely vicious with others outside his group too,

so this group requires special running time. The others all had wirey coats.

Vixen bites toes & often picks fights with others. Trouble has gotten better.

He`s probably the sweetest one in the group now. Cosette has a lovely 

new coat (Proper nutrition, combined with a good seasonal coat change.)

She has gotten sweeter too.

All four have NO IDEA what a litter pan is for.

I am writing this in late December, as we try to update our site. At this

point, Joey has had a lupron depot and all the others are growing soft,

lovely winter coats. (Good nutrition sure helps!)

The bacterial overgrowth they all were suffering is a thing of the past now

after meds, & their appetites are fairly good now. Their bathroom habits

are VERY BAD! They go EVERYWHERE!!! NO MANNERS---but we love them

and they know it. Lots of extra cleaning, every day...

UPDATE: JANUARY 27th, 2010

Two years have passed. On January 19th, 2008, we lost our sweet little

Trouble :(

Cosette is adrenal, and on Lupron. Her coat is just beautiful now!

Joey`s symptoms never re-appeared. He too, is still sporting an unusually

thick & beautiful coat.

All three have bulked up nicely for winter. 

Their potty habits haven`t improved much.

They are probably between 5 & 5 1/2 years old now, but they look younger

than when we took them in. AMAZING.

UPDATE: May 10, 2011

We lost Joey on May 7th. He became very fragile & frail, towards the end, 

but still had lots of energy. Joey just fell asleep in his hammy, and never 

woke up the next morning. (What a good way to go---for him...)

Cosette is now the last member of this group. She looks much younger than 

she is, and the lupron is keeping her adrenal disease at bay. She is also 

insulinomic, and is doing very well on her prednisolone. She is about 6 1/2 

--almost 7 years old now.
