Karagas Group
(Zak, Emma, Olivia, Desdemona, Mallory, & Simon)
These babies were victims of a broken home and have been here since
June of 2006.
Mallory and Desdemona are adrenal and on lupron. Mallory had surgery on
her leg several months ago.
Olivia and Desdemona are only about three. Zak, Mallory, and Emma are
oldies but goodies.
Olivia is deaf, but it sure doesn`t hamper her in any way. She is the queen
of "Steal everyone else`s treats & RUN!" The whole group is bonded and
very wonderful with company.

UPDATE: January 4th, 2008
Zak has not been well for several days. When we went to the vet for xrays & an exam, we realized he was in real trouble...Full of cancer. He was very uncomfortable--and there was no way out....
The necropsy was shocking. He was full of nodules--as many as 15 or so---Cancer EVERYWHERE. Some were the size of large peas. Dr. Katie was surprised he had done so well, up to this time.
After losing Simon (the other boy in this group) last year, Zak was the only boy left in this group.
The former parents will attend the visitation separately, but both will be attending. They both did love him dearly...

UPDATE: May 13th, 2008
Mallory & Emma are both insulinomic now, & require meds twice daily. Emma recently had her 6th birthday! Both girls are a bit fragile, but are still enjoying life to the fullest.
Mallory had another lupron shot in February, and is doing well.
Adrenal Desdemona went into remission & has remained just fine, for the time being.
The group has been running with several other groups, for several months. One day, a few months ago, our old boy Dallas decided to go back to the Karagas cage, when the group was through playing. He has remained with them, ever since.
The girls have missed having a guy around, and he really enjoys their attention! Often, the whole group can be found, snuggling in one hammy! They have become very bonded.

UPDATE: January 25, 2010
So much has happened, during the time our website wasn`t being updated.
Our oldsters Mallory and Emma are gone. We lost our old boy Dallas too, last
year.
Desdemona & Olivia are both still with us.
Both are adrenal, & on Lupron. Desdemona seems to feel fine, but she isn`t re-
growing her fur. (In our experience, this often indicates more serious issues.)
Their former ferrent Gregg still makes the hour drive, every Saturday to scrub the
ferret room floor & fill all of the water bottles. He brings donations of bottled water
& baby meats, and contributes towards kibble. We take turns making lunch.
We didn`t hear from the former mom for some time, but she has been back in our
lives for awhile now. She enjoys visiting the ferrets, and they enjoy her company
too. She takes fantastic pictures, and also has contributed to the sanctuary.

UPDATE:
On March 10th, we lost our fragile little Desdemona--our beautiful little calendar
girl.(Des made it into a few ferret calendars, during her lifetime. She loved to pose
for the camera.) Her once beautiful chocolate fur was now gone, and she was a
skeletal shadow of her former self. She clung to life and enjoyed it so much--but
her little body just couldn`t support her anymore. There was no pain & no fear. She
just cuddled down & went to sleep. It went well for her.
Olivia is the last one left of the Karagas group. She understood that her sister was
sick, and has handled the loss better than expected. We are introducing her to
others in the room, so that hopefully, one day she will no longer be all alone...
