Richard George Head was in the Army in 1911 - he is described as a private in the 1911 census. He was at home, at 71 Smith Street, with his family on the night of the census. His father, Richard Head, 55, was a labourer, born in Shropshire; his mother Alice Head, 46, was from Maidstone, Kent. Richard Head was one of at least five children:

Emily Alice Head, 27, a domestic servant, born in Maidstone

Elizabeth Jane Head, 19, made fancy workboxes, born in Newington

Rose Head, 16, sweet factory, born in Newington

Annie Head, 13, at school, born in Lambeth

George Head, 11, at school, born in Lambeth

William H. Bridge, 40 and single, a washer at a motor garage, born in Chelsea, lodged with the family.

Note

Kennington Oval residents of long-standing will remember the butcher's shop owned by the Head family on Clapham Road, a few yards down from St Mark's Church. I don't know if that family is related to the family of Richard George Head.
