In 1911 Bertie Seward, a builder's carpenter then aged 28, was living in three rooms at 41 Handforth Road, between Brixton Road and Clapham Road, with his widowed father Louis Seward, 55 a plumber journeyman from Kilmington, Devon, and sister Ethel Seward, 23, a dressmaker. Bertie was born in Lambeth and Ethel in Battersea.
