The "Precebo" illusion: How mere possession of an object leads to perceived benefits without consumption
“プレシボ” イリュージョン: 物を (消費せず) 持つことのみで，知覚された効用はどのようにもたらされるのか?
これまでのプラセボ効果を扱った研究では主に対象 (e.g., 薬) を使用した “後” の個人の状態に焦点が当てられてきた。ただし，こうした研究では，物を持つことになったが使用する “前” の状態について検討されてこなかった。本発表では，「ただ対象を持っているということで，使用前であっても対象から既に効用を得ている気がする」というイリュージョン (e.g., 論文をプリントアウトした状態で，既に賢くなった気がする) がどのように引き起こされるのかについて検討した8つの研究 (調査研究と実験研究) を紹介する。この効用を得ている感覚を “プレシボ” イリュージョンと名付けたのは，これが使用前 ( “pre” ) に起こっているためである。発表では，プレシボ・イリュージョンが起こるメカニズムに関しても論じる予定である。
Past research on placebo effect have focused primarily on the conditions of individual "after" they have used the objects (e.g., pill), but these research had neglected examining the conditions of individual once they possessed the object but "before" they used it. In this presentation, I will report eight studies on how mere possession of an object produces the illusory belief in the possessors that they had already benefited from the object even before utilizing it. I call this illusory feeling of benefit a "precebo" illusion, because it happens at the time people possess an object but "before" they use it. The underlying mechanisms of the precebo illusion will be discussed.
