Reaching places with Google Maps
Google Maps Navigation makes getting to places easier when you drive, walk, or bike. It tells you live traffic conditions, where to turn, which lane to use, and if there's a better route. If you get off track, Maps will automatically find a new route for you.
How to use Navigation
Start Navigation
Open the Google Maps app
.
Get directions to a location.
To hear voice-guided Navigation, touch the Navigation icon .
To exit Navigation, touch the X in the lower left.
See how long it will take
You can see about how long it'll take to get where you're going at the bottom of the screen.
What the color means
The time remaining will show up in different colors depending on the traffic. Here's what the colors mean:
Red = Heavy traffic
Yellow = Some traffic
Green = Very little traffic
Gray = No traffic information is available
Switch to miles or kilometers
Open the Google Maps app

Touch the menu
> Settings > Distance units.
Choose the unit you want.
Mute voice navigation
You can silence voice navigation by touching the mute button.
Start Navigation.
From the lower right, touch the menu
.
Select Mute
.
To turn voice navigation back on, touch Mute again.
You can also silence voice navigation by touching the volume controls on your device.

GPS turned on
Allow Google Maps to access your current location and audio speakers
