Research indicates that wearing shoes takes more energy

Most folks wonder why anyone would willingly run 26.2 miles, never mind doing the work BAREFOOT! That is what Ethiopia's Abebe Bikila did in the 1960 Olympics in Rome as he won the Gold Medal in the marathon. Americans viewing this and hearing about it at that time were thoroughly amazed and left it at this. A half century later an increasing number of runners are leaving their high-tech athletic shoes in your own home to run barefoot -- well, not completely barefoot, generally they run with minimal foot coverings that protect the foot from sharp pointy things while allowing the foot to operate naturally.

This writer recently received a couple of E-mails from a friend, runner Laura Bailiff, who, among other things, extolled her exuberance and experience of recently beginning to run "barefoot." Her messages were so interesting that I thought you'd like to hear what she's to say on the subject. First, though, here are some reasons why some runners have taken to running sans athletic shoes:

Research indicates that wearing shoes takes more energy which typically it's possible to run 3% faster running barefoot compared to 12-ounce shoes, for example.

One study demonstrated that barefoot runners use 4% less oxygen.

In January a Harvard scientist published articles that figured running without running shoes could be less impactful. Further studies are needed to determine if this could result in fewer injuries.

Landing around the forefront of the foot (barefoot running style), instead of the heel, is the natural way humans should run.

"Two weeks later I took another place age bracket 55-59 in the Death Valley Trail marathon., although Used to do that one in regular running shoes. Something concerning the Vibrams is you do have the rocks underfoot, so that they are not good for technical trail or gravel. I'll be doing the USMC at Pendleton in April and the OC Marathon in May in the barefooters. They do take some becoming accustomed to and a gradual buildup inside them, as you are using new muscles to operate by doing this."

I began doing the work just as a fun alternative and today I rarely run in regular shoes unless I absolutely have to. They are especially great in grass and even feel great when they get wet. No blister issues at all when they're wet and I can't state that about regular shoes scarpe da calcio magista. When I have gotten them especially dirty or muddy, I merely wear them in to the shower to obtain them clean. They're also machine washable and then you just hang these to dry. I haven't had them of sufficient length to determine how long they endure when compared with my Aasics...time will tell. I run in the Sprints and I also own the slip on's without a strap. Both are great and you may run in almost any of these. Take care."

Running barefoot is FUN!

Now, here's what my pal Laura needed to say regarding the subject.

"All goes well beside me and I keep going almost daily. I have done four ultra's now but have pretty much settled into the marathon distance. I'll do an ultra or two per year however it just takes a lot training some time and keeps me abroad an excessive amount of. With one daughter soon to get married and another a little way behind (twins), I like staying nearer to home. I have been doing a lot of barefoot running lately...actually not completely barefoot however in my Vibram Five Fingers. Recently i did the Maui Oceanfront Marathon in them and I am loving the barefoot feeling...plus my times have improved when running barefoot. It is so considerably faster and that i have heard this using their company runners who are while using shoes. The surprising thing is, I've had no foot or knee issues of any kind and I feel better than ever running more natural. Prior to trying this, Used to do alot of research and that i really believe barefooting is really better. It's the approach we take to were designed to operate. I did not want to go completely barefoot while there is a definite problem with glass, nails, and other road hazards, however the Vibrams do protect the feet. Of course you'll still need to be conscious of your running surface and watch the ground...something we ought to be doing anyhow. Here is a pic soon after finishing The Maui Oceanfront Marathon recently."

There's not much that i can add. One thing: Abebe Bikila did not run that Olympic marathon barefoot like a planned strategy. As it happens when he reached the Games, the running shoes hypervenom pas cher which were available for him didn't your style and weren't to his liking, so he chose to run barefoot like he did in his home country.

If you're thinking of running barefoot, seek information like Laura did since you can stress the achilles and leg muscles should you choose an excessive amount of too early or don't adjust your running technique adequately.
