Situated in the suburb of Redland, less than two miles from the centre of Bristol, Redland Green is an area of around 10 acres of grass and woodland. It has great and varying beauty throughout the year, thanks to its wealth of mature trees and undulating terrain.
Its paths provide pedestrian and cycling routes connecting Redland and Westbury Park and are well used by children accessing Redland Green School and Westbury Park School. The park is also popular with dog walkers.
The park and adjoining allotments, and the infant Cran stream that runs through it down to the Cran Brook, provide valuable habitats and a corridor for wildlife; badgers, foxes, sparrowhawks, and green and great spotted woodpeckers have all been seen here. In Spring, daffodils, crocus and fritillary abound on the banks and under the trees; in Autumn, blackberries, elderberries and hawthorn provide food for birds. In winter, the Green welcomes migrating birds such as redwing and fieldfare. If you're interested in learning more about the ecology of Redland Green, please click here.
Leisure facilities include a children's playground with equipment for younger children, a bowling club, and a private tennis club. On snowy days in winter, the slopes at the Cossins Road end provide a very popular venue for tobogganing.
Each year until 2018, on the first Monday in May, Redland Green has played host to Redland May Fair, organised by Redland and Cotham Amenities Society. In 2019, a smaller community fete was held in spring. The Covid-19 pandemic meant no fete in 2020 and 2021, and unfortunately, there are no current plans for a resumption of this much-loved spring Fair.
