Silver maple chair and bench

In March of this year, the council felled a mature silver maple tree located at the junction of the road leading into the tennis club and Redland Green Road. A recent survey had found the beginnings of a split in the main trunk with some fungal growth.

The branches of the tree disappeared quickly, as local residents (with wood burning stoves, presumably) were quick to seize upon a source of free fuel.

Fortunately, the stump and main trunk could not be removed, and Redland Green Community Group commissioned local chainsaw sculptor, Denius Parsons (http://www.chainsawsculptor.uk/about/) to sculp them into a chair and bench, which he did in August.

Enjoy taking a break in these very comfortable new seats!
