Winter and spring planting

Early in February, two of us planted Hellebores purchased from Barry Toogood in Coldharbour Road. Hellebores are beautiful, winter flowering and nectar-producing flowers, with two native spacies and many cultivars. While the area we chose for them benefits from late afternoon sun, it is otherwise quite a dark spot. However, hellebores don't mind some shade, and we hope they will be able to flourish here: it's an experiment that we hope will brighten up and enrich an otherwise quite dull area of the green.

Snakeshead fritillaries and primroses out in force in late March.
