Local body voting papers have been delivered ahead of elections later this month.

There are five hundred and thirty seven elections taking place for councils and health boards throughout the country.

Voter turn out among young voters is traditionally the worst - just 70 per cent of 18 to 24 year olds voted in the 2014 General Election, according to Statistics New Zealand figures from the 2014 General Election.

New research by an Otago University PhD student Kyle Whitfield finds a lack of information about candidates is the main reason young people do not vote in local government elections.
