Stoke Gabriel Pomeroys

Web page and research by Alma LaFrance

The Pomeroy Family Association has several members who descend from John Pomeroy (c 1700-1775), and his wife Mary Narracott, who married in 1728, Stoke Gabriel, Devon. Unfortunately John Pomeroy presents a "brick wall" for this family, as no document exists to tell us to who his father was. Was he descended from a descendant of the noble family? John's son Roger Pomeroy was Tide Waiter for the port of Brixham. Was he related to the Pomeroy family who ran a Ships Candler shop on Brixham Quay? Could YDNA be useful? There were no known male descendants residing in England; could we trace the lineage and discover one living in the USA, Canada, NZ or Australia?

From BMD, The National Archives, and other documents we have developed a lineage from John Pomeroy and Mary Narracott, which reveals that there are living male descendants in the USA, who and possibly one in Vancouver, British Columbia, both from Hull, near Bristol, Gloucestershire.

It is hoped that someday one or two will take a YDNA test with Family Tree DNA and the question will be answered.

Note: There are several trees on Ancestry which really make a muddle of this family.

For this reason I am going to attach a link.

There is a downloadable gedcom link included. (The Vancouver BC family is not included in the following link.)
