David Kolb - Experiential Learning
Other than advising the students academically, I learnt a lot from giving advice to the students based on my experience. It was very meaningful to me that I was able to make an impact to the students in other aspects other than in academics.
Description/Why did it happen
There was a student I taught frequently who had a low self-esteem. She was Primary 5 and was worried about PSLE as she was not very good at Science, but was good in English. Every time I meet her, she would tell me about how bad she is in Science.
What did I do/ and what I will do if it happens again
I would always comfort her by telling her the other subjects she is good at and that it is not common for one to excel in all subjects. I would also be more mindful and patient as I would have to explain to her the Science concepts a few times. She has mentioned to me that the teachers in school only ask her to memorise without explaining the logical flow of it. I would explain the logic behind it as she has mentioned to me that understanding the logic behind it made it easier for her to remember the concepts.
