Cross-Skilling, Up-Skilling and Re-skilling Opportunities
During my internship, due to globalisation, I noticed that the audit firm I was attached to had clients globally, namely China. Hence, I learnt the importance of language skills. Being able to read financial documents in Mandarin and Japanese was an added bonus. During my internship period, I was given the opportunity to exhibit my language skills as I was assigned tasks by my colleagues that required me to read financial documents in Japanese and Mandarin. Having no prior financial knowledge in both languages , it took me some time to be able to read the financial information, as I had to read up on financial terminology in both languages.
Learning Philosophy
Learning is a never-ending journey as it is acquirement of new knowledge. Although learning is important, it is also important to be able to apply your knowledge and skills into your career. Not being afraid to make mistakes and to constantly challenge one's limits by taking up new tasks is crucial as well. For instance, in my case, being fluent in various languages gave me various opportunities and learning experiences. It is also important to not fear making mistakes and to be confident in oneself.
