David Kolb - Experiential Learning
Throughout this service learning, other than helping the students with their academics, I was able to listen to them and advise them accordingly.
Description
Some students consult me about their worries or their insecurities. A common worry i hear from students are that they feel they are not smart enough because they are not good at a certain subject. Hence, they tend to be more unwilling to start on the homework for the subject they are weak at. I always advise them and encourage them by mentioning to them that no one starts out being good at it.
Why did it happen
The main reason why students feel they are weak at a subject is because they are not good at it.
What did I do/ and what I will do if it happens again
I would encourage them by telling them no one is good at something at the beginning and that there is always hard work involved. I would be more mindful as well when tutoring them and would compliment them whenever they are able to solve a question. Complimenting the students is an effective way to boost their confidence and to motivate them to work harder.
