Borton's Development Framework
Description
Financial accounting was the first accounting related module for all students taking Accountancy as their major. Financial accounting includes the fundamentals of accounting, such as the theoretical perspectives to understand why financial reporting is important to stakeholders. As, I had never studied accounting in my secondary school and junior college years, I had experienced difficulty in grasping the accounting concepts in seminars as compared to my peers who had studied an Accounting diploma. This resulted in more time needed for me to fully understand the seminar and to attempt the seminar questions.
The Analysis
This served as a wake-up call for me to be more hardworking to ensure that I would not fall behind my peers. From this, I understood that I would have to be adequately prepared for seminars. Understanding and being able to apply the accounting concepts taught was crucial. As this meant that I would be able to understand and correctly apply the accounting concepts when attempting the seminar questions before seminars. Understanding the accounting concepts before seminars also meant that I would be able to follow the seminars more easily and understand the seminars better.
Synthesis
From this experience, I learnt how to better prepare myself before seminars for future modules. As the last few seminars concepts are built based on the first few seminars, being well-prepared for the first few seminars allowed me to understand the last few seminars better. Hence, allowing me to understand the whole module more easily for exam preparation.
