Rolfe et al
Description (What?)
For our modules, there was a 'Participation' component which comprises of 10% of our total grade for the module. To score for this component, we would have to answer questions posed by the professor in the seminar, or engage in discussions held during the seminars.
Theory & knowledge building (So what?)
As I was generally not a very out-spoken person, it was difficult for me to score for this section. Hence, to overcome it, I first decided to participate in class by representing my group for discussions held in seminars. Following that, when I became more comfortable and confident in seminars, I would then raise my queries to the professor. Eventually, I was able to participate in seminar discussions.
Action-oriented level of reflection (What next?)
Overcoming it by stepping out of my comfort zone was a huge step for me. This also resulted in me being able to understand seminars better since I was participating in it. Also, this would also meant that I would be able to score for the 'Participation' component as well, hence killing two birds with one stone. This would definitely be useful for future modules with the 'Participation' component in it.
