Graham Gibbs - Reflective Cycle
Description
Through this service learning, I have taught various students from different backgrounds and different personalities. Some of the students were from dysfunctional families. Some students talk to me about their family issues. For instance, there was a student who was unable to finish her school work during the time i was at the center. So i told her she can ask her parents to assist her with her work. Then she mentioned to me that her mother gets irritated when teaching her so she had to finish it in the center before she goes home.
Feelings and Emotional Responses
Through this event, I understand that we although being temporary tutors, play a significant part of their lives. If a student is willing to learn, it makes me more motivated and willing to teach them. Hence, despite it being passed my designated time, I stayed back that day and helped her to finish her homework.
Conclusion
Being able to tutor students from different backgrounds was meaningful and eye opener for me. It taught me to be more appreciative and to be more sympathetic towards the students.
