16.02.5 Post-Operative Emesis

Some of the drugs used for cytotoxic drug-induced or motion sickness-induced emesis are also useful in post-operative emesis. Thus, in post-operative emesis, the dopamine D2 receptor antagonists (prochlorperazine, metoclopramide, the histamine H1-receptor antagonist promethazine, the 5-HT3-receptor antagonists (the –etrons, such as ondansetron) , and the muscarinic receptor antagonist scopolamine can all be useful.
