10.03.2 5-HT and the Gastrointestinal Tract

5-HT stimulates 5-HT3-receptors to increase vomiting. The -etrons: e.g. ondansetron (prototype) are selective 5-HT3-receptor antagonists. Ondansetron, and others in the -etron family are used to inhibition emesis. The –etrons are the most effective agents for treating chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting.
