10.02.4 Bimatoprost

Bimatoprost is a prostamide analogue, which stimulates a prostamide receptor, which is poorly characterised presently, but known to be different to prostaglandin receptors. Stimulation of the prostamide receptor with bimatoprost increases aqueous humour outflow, to reduce intraocular pressure. Bimatoprost has been found to be very potent and highly effective in the treatment of ocular hypotension.
