11.02 Eicosanoids

The eicosanoids are all the mediators derived from arachidonic acid. These include the prostanoids (PGF_2α, PGD₂, PGE₂, prostacyclin (PGI₂), thromboxane), and leukotrienes. They are involved in the control of many systems, mainly in inflammation and immunity, and as messengers in the central nervous system.
