I've looked at the IEC program for a few years but just have not pulled the trigger for one reason or another and taken the plunge. After talking with Juli Kimbley at the Central Valley CUE Conference recently I decided it was time to get off the fence and get started. For the last few years I have been looked at as the technology lead on my campus. While I have always had a passion for trying new things I know I'm still a work in progress.
While I'm still formulating exactly how my IEC project will shape up I do know that I want it to relate to being a practical project for my Districts iPad for teachers initiative. I've already found a very useful infographic in the diigo group that I have shared with my colleagues at work. Facilitated my first "Appy Hour" this past week and started an Edmodo group for teachers in my district. My Superintendent is supportive of my work on the initiative, he attended this weeks meeting and agreed to purchase some of the accessories and apps shared at the meeting.
My elective plan is currently to take the following:
Differentiate with Technology
Web 2.0 Tools for the Classroom
Twitter for Educators
Due to a very busy schedule at the current time I don't plan on starting my elective until February. That might change as I see how the course load is going and my other work schedule is playing out. At the current time I'm also working on my Leading Edge Digital Educator Certification. My goal is to start the 2015-2016 school year having two Leading Edge Certifications (Digital Educator and Online and Blending Teacher) and my Innovative Educator Certificate.
On Friday the Deputy Superintendent emailed me to say the district will be sending me to the CUE conference in Palm Springs, WooHoo! I'm looking forward to the IEC program allowing me to build deeper connection with other educators and deepen my knowledge and skill in effective use of technology to support students education. The journey has begun well. I look forward each day to seeing what new posts I will find on Google+. I have the feeling the IEC community on Google+ is going to become a very valuable resource for years to come and my go to place for technology questions and needs. I love the way former cohort members chime in and interact with the current cohort.
Let the journey begin....
