While on a normal day in room 200 at Wilson Middle School you would see the behaviorist for part of the class that would then morph into the cognitivist, and then the constructivist. It all depends on what the part of the class time you walked into the room and what was/is the main goal of the day. The class is ever shifting to the needs of the students to gain the maximum knowledge and skill development each day.
For this exercise as the directions stated I stuck to something other than what is the norm so I chose just one theory the cognitivist view. With this lesson the we will assist students in assimilating new information to existing knowledge. Music is planned that connects to a scale students already know. Scale is used as warm-up but new rhythms from song are infused in scale. Rhythm patterns are part of warm-up as non-tonal exercise to enforce a strong rhythm base before reading full song. There are no new rhythms just new rhythm patterns. iPad is used to airplay familiar rhythms is old patterns as a reference on screen. Counting dots....
