I'm not new to Twitter as I have been on there for a few years. I started using twitter a few years ago while at Comic Con International to follow what was trending at the event and learn about special unannounced events taking place at Comic Con or about Swag opportunities. For the first year or so I was on twitter it was mainly just for following comic book and scifi genre entertainment events.
Somewhere along the way I started noticing some of the people I followed and that followed me that are educators were also posted about education. I started making the shift to focusing more on music and education and less on comic books. At a CUE event I heard about back channeling on twitter and that started me down a different path or growing my network even larger. The next progression was to venture into Ed Chats, with my already very busy schedule I don't participate in any edchat weekly but I do especially like #caedchat and #tlap.
As for hashtags well I don't have a specific list that I would call my go to instead I really more on what are the folks I'm following tweeting out. If I'm looking for something specific I will search using what I think might be a hashtag used for that subject. Example iPads - I might try #ipaded #ipadedu or #apped one of these would give me some useful hits and may lead me to another hashtag to try for more information.
As for Pintrest I now some people love it and I have been on there for a while as well but have never really taken to using it that much. I have followed most everyone in the cohort and found one or two things for my board from cohort members boards. I also noticed that several of us had pinned the same things independently of each other.
If I must pick favorite hashtags this would be a short list:
#caedchat
#tlap
#edtech
#ipadedu
#edcamp
#cuerockstar
#musedchat
I would not say that I found anything new are amazing while doing this assignment but I did see some of the same things I already use or things I have bookmarked to try when I have some time pop-up several times. My favorite new web tool would Zaption I really do like that and ran across it just before the school year started. Gave it a try and the students really dig using it as well.
