Mobile Technologies Redux -
So I have done most of these sessions twice. Whereas last time Ed Campos Iron Chef Project was my personal favorite this time around I have to say the Tech Chicks mobile implementation was my highlight session.
Being a half-time Technology Specialist for the District this year and going full-time in that position next year has presented new challenges. This session answered so many questions I had about how the back end works and how to better manage iPads. In talking with the IT department after this session and knowing what to ask the guys has created so much more credibility with the IT department. The front line techs have asked that I be able to work more closely with the IT department next year.
The techs call me know to help them with setting up devices for classrooms. One tech even said it is so nice to have a teacher that understand how the tech works.
While there was no project for this session it has been the single most useful session for me in my current role. Therefore this has been my signature session. I have a go-to resource for when I need help in the tech chicks and gained buy-in with my IT department.
Part I
My favorite assignment from the Mobile Technologies Unit was the Iron Chef Slide Presentation we did with Ed Campos. This has created a nice collection of apps reference for future use. In fact I have already added a few of these to my iPad to experiment with this summer as I travel and prepare for next year.
Some of the iPad apps from this presentation have made there way into my website for my project.
I love the Iron Chef concept. I saw it first used at CUE Rockstar on the Hornet by Jon Corippo and have used it with students myself for presentations. Ever since going to this format as long as I take the time to set it up properly the students work has been so much better and they are so much more engaged with what they are doing.
Ed also took the time to meet with me recently and shared a list of addition apps and web site of math resources for me to take back to teachers in my district. I so love the willingness of colleagues from the IEC program to help each other out.
