One of the best things about the IEC program has been the connects I have made with fellow educators. Ed Campos who lead this session has become a good friend because of my involvement with IEC. While we teach in different districts we both live in the same town and first meet when I start the IEC program. We have become twitter friends and chat often.
Even though we talk often and share app suggestions and ways to use them I learned a cool new trick during our session. Ed shared how you can take a picture with your mobile device while in Google drive and have it load directly into an already created folder. The possibilities of what you can do with this are many. For example you could have students take that image and open it in other app and write on the image (label).
Above is our practice with taking a picture on a mobile device and loading directly into Google folder.
We discussed our five favorite mobile apps and why they were our favorite apps. Create a list of these apps to share with each other. As we all come from different content areas and backgrounds we will have different favorites and a big part of education is sharing knowledge with each other.
Further discuss was had about the SAMR model and growth mindset. Some time was spent look at Teach Thoughts website on SAMR. I shared ClassDojo's video series on Growth Mindset which we having been using in my district.
While most of this session was more of a review for me any time you can come together with fellow educators and talk about your craft is time well spent. The added bonus tonight was learning about taking pictures on mobile devices while in google drive. I look forward to exploring that more in the coming days to see how that will impact students and teachers.
Our final project or work for the night was to work on a group padlet of apps based on the SAMR model.
I love Ed's energy and enthusiasm for education and passion for students. Always have a great time when we get to talk and hang out together.
