This session with Andy Losik was very collaborative in nature. I recently attended Picademy in Mountain View for a weekend and the team that lead the training called it CPD (Collaborative Professional Development). I find that I get so much more out of a well-organized CPD session.
We reviewed the SAMR model with mobile devices again so there was some overlap between Andy's session and the two previous sessions. While I do think the SAMR model is important it seems that we have spent too much time with presenters going over the same thing. Both Andy and Ed spent time having us go through each level of the SAMR model and we also had some SAMr from Julene. It might be that I personally have spent so much time looking at SAMR that I had hoped for something more with these sessions.
Love this slide and the discussion about how it is not about the technology but the pedagogy that is important. Sometimes students get more from no tech than they do with using tech. We all need to stay focused on the WHY? Tech for tech sake is not going to help students grow. Good pedagogy with tech can lead to great success.
Taking charge of my own classroom and having great buy-in and success with students has at times lead to some friction with the administration but gone a long way with students and parents. There will days when I FAIL but as long as I get up and try again and refine my lesson design, in the end, it will be worth it.
Will be interesting to see how this plays out.
I was glad to see Andy talk a little about iPad management. This has been a source of frustration for many teachers in my district. I love what can be done creatively on iPads. I'm hoping Apples new management system will make using the iPads easier without having to use a third party vendor.
Overall I enjoyed Andy's session. The best part was how collaborative he made the session. Sometimes we can learn more from ours and others failure than from successes.
