This past week I was able to get my first look at Google Classroom. Exeter has chosen to not be a GAFE school District much to my dismay. The Director of Technology in my District feels that Google is not safe. But I digress, let me get back on the topic of Google Classroom.
Thanks to the fantastic Lisa Nowakowski we had the opportunity to not only look at Google Classroom but play with it for a few days. I have been using Edmodo as a Learning Management System for a couple of years and was excited to final get a peak at Classroom. While I love Edmodo teachers at my site that are technology challenged find it difficult to use at first and often get frustrated. Classroom was very similar in the set-up of adding classes. The integration of Google Drive is so much easier to use in Classroom.
Because I know I'm not the only visual learner out there I created a short video tutorial on how to create a class in Google Classroom.
When you log into Classroom for the first time your home page will look like the following:
Because my use of Google Classroom is still very limited. I have now had a chance to play in the sandbox. But I have not played with students yet. I'm still seeking out the advice/knowledge of those that have more experience. Here is an article that compares Edmodo and Classroom. One thing to note about Google Classroom is that it is still relatively new and features are being added to Classroom.
