During this weeks session with Lucie we participated in a Google Hangout. This got me thinking how now that all Exeter teachers have iPads could we start experimenting with using Google Hangouts in a meaningful way. What would it look like in Exeter? So I went off in search of articles by others that have gone before me into the world of educational hangouts. I found a couple of good articles as a starting place on Edutopia. I should have jumped into the Diigo and our Google+ community first as the first article I found and posted, Using Google Hangouts For Teacher Development, had already been posted a few days earlier and I missed it.
While I'm loving the interaction and lessons so far in the IEC program one of the things I'm struggling with at the moment is balancing the holiday concert season with the work load which is only going to get worse for the next few weeks and then lighten up a ton. I've had some great conversations both in the IEC community and privately with my cohort. The Google Hangout was fun and getting to learn more about a few cohort members was a treat.
Anne's post iPad as the Teacher's Pet was excellent and I added it to my district Edmodo "Appy Hour" group to share with the teachers. The cool thing about G+ is that I can access it on my phone or iPad for a quick read of posts and updates during a break during the day. I changed my settings tonight so that I do get notifications from the IEC community about posts so I hopefully will not miss an article and double post it again like I did this week. This should also help me with being more timely with replying to comments on any articles or post I make along with commenting on article posted by others.
I still have a long way to go on this journey and I'm just starting to find my way...
