I'm Somebody 2010-2011

I'm Somebody Award is given by the captains and coaches for an outstanding "Redhawk-like" performance at the previous varsity dual or tournament."Many a man has failed because he had a wishbone where his backbone ought to have been."

11/27/2010: Kyle Miller 140. Kyle turned a 3-11 deficit into a 17-15 overtime come-from-behind victory. Kyle scored two reversals and four takedowns in a row to tie it before scoring a fifth takedown in overtime for the win. Awesome job Kyle!

12/3/2010: Steven Splan 119. Steven battled in a topsy-tervy match at West Aurora and came out on top with a hugh second period pin. Way to go Steven!

12/4/2010: John Mixen 160. John had three hard fought wins at the Mega Duals in which he scored 7 total takedowns and gave up no offensive points in three matches except a reversal. He won 6-4, 4-2, and 7-3. Nice Work John!

12/9/2010: John Graeber 152. John scored a second period pin against Khasnov of Wheaton North to introduce our new room in DVC style. Great Work John!

12/10/2010: James Mitchell 285. James scored on a single leg takedown in the second period and battled to a tough 4-3 win against Wheaton Warrenville South. A key victory. Fantastic James!

12/11/2010: James Mitchell 285. For the second time in a row, James wins the I'm Somebody Award. This time for winning the Hoffman Estates Tournament when coming in unseeded. James won two matches in double overtime and secured a fall in the final second of the championship match to win gold. Amazing Job James!

12/16/2010: Kirk Cherep 130. Kirk scored a come-from-behind fall in the final seconds of his match against Lincoln-Way East at home. Never-Say-Die Kirk!

12/17-18/2010: Jon Williamson 125. Jon won four matches at the Hiinsdale Central "Whitlatch" Tournament to take 7th place. In his place match, Jon scored a last second takedown to win by one point and avenge an earlier loss to Bromberek of Lemont. Way to Battle Back Jon!

12/29/2010: Jon Williamson 125. Jon scored seven unanswered points in the third period against Garcia of Sandburg to avenge an earlier loss to the same opponent. Jon finished the Sandburg Quad 3-0. That-A-Way Jon!

1/6/2011: Alex Sokolowski 152. Alex scored five takedowns, his last one a well executed double leg taking his opponent to his back for the fall against Glenbard East. Well Done Alex!

1/7/2011: Will Damron 215. Will scored a takedown in each period of his match against Naperville North to win by a score of 6-4 in a critical match. Will's victory put the Redhawks up 17-8 and in good shape to win the dual. Way to Go Senior!

1/8/2011: Colin Guttosch 171. Colin finished the day 3-0 at Niles North with a pin and two come-from-behind victories, the last one in overtime. Great Job Colin!

1/12/2011: NCHS Seniors. Naperville Central started eight seniors and won seven matches against DVC foe West Chicago at home. Congratuations Seniors!

1/15/2011: NCHS Varsity Wrestling Team. Naperville Central finished the Mahomet-Seymour Invitational with a record of 41-15. The outstanding team effort made it impossible to pick out one performance as "I'm Somebody." The team tournament effort was one of the most outstanding efforts that this coach has every witnessed in 20+ years of coaches. Outstanding Redhawks!

1/21/2011: John Mixen 152. John finished the DVC dual with Glenbard North in style with a 6-4 overtime decision. John scored two takedowns in the second period and capped off with a takedown in overtime for the victory. Excellent John!

1/22/2011: Nick Pratt videographer. Nick has become a very important part of our team this year with helping take and complile our wrestling videos all season. Thanks Nick for your time and work!

1/29/2011: Josh Tardy 135. Josh became DuPage Valley Conference champion with his 6-5 win over Frank McKeown of Naperville North in the finals. Josh won three matches in the tournament. Congratulations Josh on the Gold!

2/5/2011: Ryan Porter 103, Jon Williamson 125, Josh Tardy 135, John Graeber 145, and Luke Roth 189. All five became sectional qualifiers by placing in the top three at the IHSA Regional Tournament held at NCHS. Ryan won three matches including avenging his first round loss to take third. Jon won four matches including his first round loss to take third, Josh won the gold by defeating McKeown of NN for the second tmie in a week. John took second and Luke won the tournament as the second seed. Congratulations Qualifiers!

2/11-12/2011: Josh Tardy 135 and Luke Roth 189. Josh become a two-time state qualifier and Luke will compete at state for the first time as both placed at the IHSA Sectional Tournament at DGN high school. Congrats Redhawks and Good Luck at State!

2/18-19/2011: Josh Tardy 135. Josh become state placewinner winning four matches at the Assembly Hall in Champaign and taking 4th place. A tremendous accomplishment. Way to Go Josh!
