I'm Somebody 2009-2010

I'm Somebody Award is given by the captains and coaches for an outstanding "Redhawk-like" performance at the previous varsity dual or tournament.

11/25/2009: John Graeber 135. John started off the year on the right foot by securing two falls both in the first period, against Neuqua Valley and Wabaunsee Valley. Great Job John!

11/28/2009: Mike Ryan, Colin Guttosch, and Matt Schefke 145, 171, 215. Mike, Colin and Matt all scored their first varsity wins to help the Redhawks defeat Batavia in a close dual. Awesome Wrestlers!

12/04/2009: Josh Tardy 130. Josh defeated Vencia of West Aurora with a third period counter to his opponent's single leg attempt Josh's win sparked a commanding performance by the Redhawks in their first DVC action of the year. Way to go Josh!

12/05/2009: Jon Williamson 112. Jon won 2 matches at the mega duals to help the Redhawks to improve to 7-2 on the year with two dual wins. Great Work Jon!

12/10/2009: Joe Savina 160. Joe's hard fought 5-1 victory sealed the dual win against DVC foe Wheaton North. Joe scored 3 points in the final period lock down the win. Excellent Joe!

12/11/2009: Mitch Lee 103. Mitch won a key match to help propel the Redhawks to a dual meet victory against Wheaton Warrenville South and 3-0 in the DVC ! That a Way Mitch!

12/12/2009: Andy Kovalsky (Nick Pratt, Honorary) 135. Andy won three matches in route to his second consecutive title at the Hoffman Estates "Hawk" Tournament and did not have an offensive point scored against him the entire day. Andy's efforts helped NCHS take 2nd in the 12 team tournament. Nick Pratt took film the entire tournament (9 hours) helping the Redhawks prepare for matches down the road. Well Done Andy and Nick!

12/18-19/2009: Steve Bus 189. Steve went 6-2 at the Whitlatch tournament at Hinsdale Central, including winning five in a row to take 4th. Steve pinned Stringer of New Trier, a wrestler whom he lost to in the earlier rounds. NCHS took 5th in the tournament missing 3rd place by just 3 team points. Fantastic Steve!

12/30/2009: Josh Tardy 130. Josh went 3-0 at the Sandburg Quad including pins against Hinsdale South and Mahomet-Seymour and a thrilling 3-0 victory against Argueta of Sandburg. Tardy avenges a lost to Argueta from earlier in the year. Nice Going Josh!

1/02/2010: James Mitchell 285. James went 2-1 on the Libertyville Quad including a key third period fall against Pottow of Schaumburg that helped propel the Redhawks to a close 34-31 victory. Way to Work James!

1/08/2010: Kirk Cherep 125. Kirk lead the Redhawks to a 40-19 team victory over crosstown rivals Naperville North with a big win against state-qualifier Frankie McKeown by a score of 6-4. Kirk scored a takedown late in the third period to secure the victory. Fantastic Kirk!

1/14/2010: Jon Williamson 112. Jon lead the way to a fantastic 40-24 win against DVC foe Glenbard East with a huge 9-7 victory at 112 pounds. Jon overcame a 3-7 deficit in the second period and rattled off 6 straight points for the win. Way to Fight Jon!

1/16/2010: Andy Kovalsky 135. Andy led the way for the Redhawks by taking 2nd at the Mahomet-Seymour Bulldog Invitational. Andy won 3 matches in the tournament. The team brought home a third place trophy. Great Leadership Andy!

1/22/2010: Steve Bus 189. Steve scored a takedown in the final seconds to defeat White of West Chicago at 189 pounds to help lead the team to a 6-0 conference record. Nice Job Steve!

1/23/2010: James Mitchell 285. James scored a big pin on senior night at home. James's fall gave the Redhawks a 16-9 team lead leading back to the lower weights. Way to go James!

1/30/2010: Andy Kovalsky 140. Andy took second place in the conference tournament just losing to Chino of Wheaton Warrenville South. Chino is a returning state place-winner. Great Effort Andy!

2/6/2010: Steve Bus 189. Steve won all three matches to become a Regional Champion at Hinsdale South HS. Steve won the final two matches in triple overtime. Way to fight Steve!

2/13/2010: Josh Tardy and Andy Kovalsky 130 and 140. Josh won four matches to place fourth at the IHSA Sectional meet held at Glenbard North High School and Andy Kovalsky won three to make the finals and finish second. Both Josh and Andy have qualified for the IHSA State Tournament next weekend. Congratulations Josh and Andy!

2/20/2010: Andy Kovalsky 140. Andy won three matches at the IHSA State Tournament in Champaign to take 4th at State. Andy becomes the first state place-winner for NCHS in the last seven years. Congratulations Andy on your terriffic accomplishment!
