I'm Somebody 2007 2008

I'm Somebody Award is given by the captains and coaches for an outstanding "Redhawk-like" performance at the previous varsity dual or tournament.

11/21/2007: Keenan Marr 130. Keenan started the year 2-0 by winning both matches at the Naperville Quad. Keenan won 5-3 and a come-from-behind 5-3 decision. Great Job Keenan!

11/24/2007: Riley Roberts 145. Riley caped off a great day at home by scoring three pins against Chicago Lane Tech, Downers Grove South, and Batavia. Way to pin 'em Riley!

11/30/2007: Andy Kovalsky 135. Andy scored a 2nd period fall on the first night of DVC dual competition. Congrats Andy!

12/01/2007: Matt Gorbach 140. Matt scored 3 big victories at the Mega Duals. Matt started the day with a 11-1 major decision against St. Charles East then rolled to two falls against Oswego and Lockport. Fantastic job Matt!

12/06/2007: Nick Weithman 215. Nick stepped up to the plate with the dual on the line against Downers Grove North and brought home the victory for the Redhawks in an exciting 6-5 win. That a way Nick!

12/07/2007: Keenan Marr 130. Keenan scored on 2 side rolls, one in the final seconds to win his match and carry the Redhawks to a DVC victory over Glenbard East. Another last second dual win for the 'Hawks. Fantastic Keenan!

12/08/2007: Christian Lynch 285. Christian made the finals for the first time at the Hoffman Estates "Hawk" tournament and ended in 2nd place. Christian won 3 matches in a row in route to his silver medal. Way to go Christian!

12/13/2007: Joe Savina 160 and Steve Hurley 112. Two first time varsity winners share the I'm Somebody this week with impressive wins against Naperville North. Sophomore Joe Savina broke open a tight match with a second period fall and Junior Steve Hurley won with a big takedown in overtime to secure a decision. Way to go Joe and Steve!

12/14 - 15/2007: Chris Graeber 171. Chris went 4-0 to take the championship at the 24 team Whitlatch Tournament in impressive style. Chris won 2 matches by fall and two by major decision in route to the gold. Congrats Chris!

12/21/2007: Matt Burns 189. Matt racked up two takedowns and a nearfall and aggressively attacked on the top position to secure a second period fall at Leyden. That's how you do it Matt!

12/27/2007: Jon Coluzzi 152. Jon continued his good run with two big victories at home against top competition. Jon started the day defeating Nelson from Brother Rice by a major decision and then responded with a tight 8-7 victory against Balazi of Oswego East. Excellent Jon!

1/4/2008: Andy Kovalsky 130. Andy defeated Jonny Padill of West Chicago in his first match at 130. Andy use a throw as a counter from his opponent's takedown attempt to take a big lead in the 2nd period and added a takedown for a major decision. Way to fight Andy!

1/5/2008: Adam Gebner 145. Adam won his first match varsity match competing at 145 at Sandburg. Adam, a sophomore, defeated Gregoire of Hinsdale South by a major decision 17-3. Congrats Andy!

1/10/2008: Taylor Patton 140. Taylor scored 8 points in the final period to not only pull out a victory, but secure a major decision in the final period against Wheaton Warrenville South in DVC action at home, 9-1. Way to go Taylor!

1/12/2008: Jon Coluzzi 152. Jon won three matches in route to a tournament victory at the Mahomet-Seymour Bulldog Invitational. Jon dominated all of his matches, winning one by pin and two more by major decision. That a way Jon!

1/17/2008: NCHS Freshman Team. Josh Tardy scored a first period fall that capped off a freshman dual victory against DVC opponent Glenbard North. John Mixen, Mike Donaldson, Alex Hook, Alex Sokolowski, Sam French, Collin Guttosch, and John Gustin also won for the Redhawks. Congratulations Freshman!

1/18/2008: Matt Burns. Matt scored a first period takedown and capitalized on a takedown and quick turn in the second period to cruise to a 8-2 victory against Wheaton North's Hane in DVC action. Great Job Matt!

1/26/2008: Chris Graeber. Chris captured his 2nd DVC crown, on Saturday by winning 2 matches at the conference tournament. Chris scored 12 takedowns in 3 matches including 4 in the finals to win at 171 pounds. Excellent Chris!

2/2/2008: Nick Santos. Nick earned a Sectional Birth by taking 3rd at the IHSA Regionals. Nick won 17-14 and overcame a deficit twice to win the match. Nick's efforts were outstanding. Wonderful Job Nick!!!

2/9/2008: Chris Graeber. Chris Graeber becomes the first state qualifier for Naperville Central High School since Jeff Burdorf in 2004. Chris placed 3rd at the IHSA Sectionals to earn his first state birth. Congratulations Chris!

2/15/2008: Chris Graeber. Chris Graeber wrestled to a lost in his only match at the Assembly Hall. Chris lost 2-4 to Matt Dwyer of Rockton Honenegah in the first round of the State Tournament. Chris scored the first takedown and was aggressive throughout the match. Great effort Chris!
