Redhawks open season at Marmion

Naperville Central opened the very unusual, delayed 2021 season with loses against Marmion and Lockport. Senior standout Shane Roth, 182, finished the day with two pins, a first period fall against Marmion and a last third period fall over Lockport. David Pirozhnik also came away with two wins, a 9-1 major decision against Lockport and a win by forfeit. Wins were also record by Ayden Lutes (152), Ethan Olson (120), and Alex Knusel (138). Knusel’s win came by pin in just 17 seconds against his opponent from Lockport.


Naperville Central Defeats Yorkville Christian at Home

  • NCHS 48 – Yorkville Christian 31

Yorkville Christian, a late replacement for the scheduled contest with DVC foe Waubonsie Valley, won all but one contested matches against the Redhawks. Central won the dual by virtue of forfeits. The lone win was posted by Junior Nick Antonietti who won by fall with just seven seconds left in the match. Antonietti had to come from behind to earn the win. Down 1-6 after the first period, Antonietti scored nine unanswered points in the second period and added a takedown in the final period before getting the fall. Yorkville Christian is a highly ranked Class A school in Illinois.


Naperville Central Takes Three Duals at Batavia

Naperville Central improved to 4-2 after taking all three duals competing at Batavia High School. The final contest was decided in the final two matches as the Redhawks were able to come from behind to beat Jacobs.


Sophomore Patrick Geiger lost 4-7 in the opening match at 126 pounds. Geiger had won in the previous dual by technical fall against Batavia. Freshman standout Mitchell Kaszuba lost by fall. Kaszuba earned his first varsity win in his match against Schaumburg. Captain Alex Knusel was nipped in his match, losing by a score of 0-1. Knusel finished the day 2-1, earning a couple of pins. Knusel is now 4-2 on the young season. Chris Ramirez fell by decision 3-7. Like his teammate, Ramirez had a couple of pins under his belt on the day. Jacobs took an early 15-0 team score lead.


The comeback against Jacobs started with veteran starter Ayden Lutes. Lutes won by technical fall 17-2. It was a good day for Lutes, finishing 3-0 which included an excellent 4-3 decision against Riley Woods of Batavia. Lutes now has a record of 5-1 and leads the team with 17 takedowns. Senior Anthony Pendolino finished the day undefeated. His fall against Jacobs pulled the Redhawks within 4 team points: 11-15.


Jacobs answered with a major decision win against Haaris Khan to make the team score 11-19. Then Jacobs forfeited to senior 182 pounder Shane Roth and 195 pounder David Pirozhnik. Both Roth and Pirozhnik remain undefeated on the season with records of 6-0. Earlier, Roth added a pin and a 7-3 decision earlier on the day and leads the team in falls with three. Pirozhnik scored a fall as well. He leads the Redhawks in the team score category with 34 out of a possible 36 point. The two freebees from Jacobs made the team score 23-19 in favor of the Hawks. Austin Longmire was defeated by major decision and Jacobs knotted the team score 23-23 with four matches left. Longmire was a 6-3 winner earlier in a hard fought battle against Schaumburg at heavyweight.


Wrestling at heavyweight against Jacobs, Nick Antonietti battled to a major decision 8-0. The win put the Hawks ahead again 23-27 with three matches left. Antonietti earned a fall against Batavia to improve to 5-1 on the year. Freshman Ty Martin lost a hard fought match at 106 pounds by a major decision 0-12. The dual would come down to the final two matches as scoreboard show 27 points for each team. Wrestling at 113, Ethan Sentman got on the top position, cradled his opponent to his back and secured the pin with just one second left in the second period. The fall put the Redhawks ahead 33-27 ensuring a dual victory. Ethan Olson was defeated in the final match of the day 0-5, but the win was not enough for Jacobs. Olson had won both of his earlier matches against Schaumburg and Batavia.


Meanwhile, wrestling at home, Naperville Central won 17 of 19 matches contested against Batavia.


Naperville Central Splits a Triangular at Home Event

The Redhawks (6-3, 1-0 in DVC) were defeated by Carl Sandburg in dual one but bounced back with a decisive victory against former DVC foe Wheaton Warrenville South. Against Sandburg, the Hawks were able to take four matches against one of the top ranked teams in the state.

In the dual against Wheaton Warrenville South, NCHS won 10 of 13 contested matches and won another by forfeit. At 103 pounds. Ty Martin won his third match of the season by fall in the second period. Ethan Sentman followed with a 16-1 technical fall at 113 pounds. Sentman scored a two point nearfall in the waning seconds to earn the extra bonus point. Ethan Olson looked impressive with a second period fall at 120 pounds.

Junior August Kukis, 126 won his first career varsity match by fall in the first period. Kukis’s hard work is starting to show positive results. Fellow junior Ayden Lutes, 152 was a double winner on the day. He defeated his opponent 5-0 after his victory against Sandburg by major decision 19-6. Lutes improved to a record of 8-1 on the year and leads the team with 27 takedowns. Anthony Pendolino continue his impressive streak, adding two more falls on the day at 160 pounds. Pendolino’s 6-3 record includes four wins by fall, second on the team in that category. Haaris Khan battled to a hard fought 4-2 victory at 170 pounds.

Junior Ethan Pytlak looked very impressive with his first career varsity win at 182 pounds. Pytlak scored early with a powerful double leg takedown and a first period stick. David Pirozhnik earned his eighth wins on the season with a pin at 195. He is tied with the most win for the Hawks. Austin Longmire picked up a forfeit against WWS. He showed improvement with an impressive 7-4 decision against his opponent from Sandburg in the first contest.

Junior Nick Antonietti proved he is a wrestler to be reckoned with after notching two victories on the day. His record of 8-1 ties the team lead with wins. Antonietti’s two pins also added to his team leading five falls on the season.

The junior varsity and freshman wrestlers continue to dominate their opponents. Against Sandburg, the Redhawks won 10 of 14 matches with seven of those wins coming by fall. Against Wheaton Warrenville South, NCHS won six of seven matches.

NCHS 49 – Neuqua Valley 21

Naperville Central won eight of twelve contested matches and picked up another couple of forfeits to cruise a DuPage Valley Conference victory at Neuqua Valley High School.

The contest started at the 145 pound weight class were Boumans of NV defeated Chris Ramirez by technical fall. Neuqua Valley then forfeited their matches at 152 and 160 pounds giving Anthony Pendolino and Ayden Lutes a free victory and a 12-5 team score lead. Junior 170 pounder Haaris Khan fell behind early in his match, but came storming back to tie the score late in the match. Then, with just a few seconds left, Khan was able to secure a huge pin. The win extended the team score lead to 18-5. In the next match, upstart Ethan Pytlak, 182 was defeated by fall.

NCHS rattled off three consecutive win by pin-fall in the upper weight classes. Junior David Pirozhnik extended his undefeated season to 7—0 after fighting for a fall in the 195 pound weight class. Senior Austin Longmire followed with a pin of his own midway through his match at 220 pounds. Finally Nick Antonietti was able to put his opponent’s shoulders to the mat wrestling in the heavyweight. The three wins enlarged the team score margin 36-11.

Freshman Ty Martin was defeated by pin at 106. His loss was avenged by 113 pounder Ethan Sentman who won by major decision 14-5. Ethan number two, Olson that is, looked tough in defeating Gio Spatafora by decision 9-2 at 120 pounds. Neuqua Valley scored a victory at 126 as August Kukis fell by major decision. In the final two bouts, freshman Mitchell Kaszuba earned a varsity win at 132 with a 9-7 decision and senior Alex Knusel closed out the team with, hanging on to win 6-5.

At the JV/F Level, the Redhawks won 16 of 18 matches contested.


Naperville Central Splits a Triangular at Plainfield North

The Redhawks travel to Plainfield North High School where they defeated Joliet West but lost to Plainfield North in a dual that came down to the final match of the night. Central won eight of eleven matches over Joliet West, while taking six of thirteen from Plainfield North.

In the dual against Joliet West, earning pins for the Redhawks were Ayden Lutes and Austin Longmire. Shane Roth battled to win by technical fall. Other winners were Ethan Sentman, Ethan Olson, Ethan Jones, Chris Ramirez, and Nick Antonietti. Sentman and Olson each won by major decision. August Kukis and Alex Knusel both received forfeits.

Plainfield North proved to a challenge to defeat. Olson and Knusel received early forfeits and Jones came away with a pin to give the Hawks an early team score lead. The matches went back and forth from that point. Chris Ramirez just missed winning by decision at 145 pounds. Ayden Lutes looked dominant with a 20-5 technical fall. After two wins by North, Shane Roth was able to defeat his opponent 6-1 at 182 pounds. Austin Longmire earned an impressive pin at 220. The match was essentially tied coming down to the final bout with Amico (PN, 113) defeating Sentman by major decision 4-13.

NCHS JV and freshman won all 13 matches against Joliet West and won 10 of 11 matches against Plainfield North.


Naperville Central Battles Naperville North on the Turf

NCHS 42 – NNHS 24

The annual crosstown classic wrestling dual pitting the Redhawks against the Huskies took place on the turf in Memorial Stadium at Naperville Central High School on a Friday night. The weather was perfect as the contest started in the daylight and concluded under the lights on the football field. The Redhawks won the dual 42-24 taking eight of the thirteen contested matches.

The event started at the 152 pound weight class were senior Ayden Lutes overcame an early deficit to win by major decision over Garrett Dahn. The Huskies answered as they came back to win five of the next six matches. Nico Takano (NN, 160) used a foot sweep and later pinned Anthony Pendolino. Ericas Bartkevicius (NN, 170) battled to a late third period fall against Haaris Khan. Senior Shane Roth was able to temporarily stop the bleeding for the Hawks with a 7-2 decision at 182 pounds. Gavin McCormick (NN, 195) caught Ethan Pytlak on his back for a first period pin. Dane Tsao (NN, 220) squared off against Austin Longmire and came away with a decision 3-7. At this point, the main scoreboard showed the Huskies ahead 21-7 in the team score.

The Redhawks were able to win seven of the final eight matches. Nick Antoniettti (NC, 285) on top and maintained good position throughout, winning by major decision 9-0 verses Abdul Ibragimov. Freshman upstart Ty Martin (NC 106) was able to secure a fall over Alex Paunkov. After Ethan Sentman (NC, 113) received a forfeit, Ethan Olson (NC, 120) scored a pin-fall over Aidan Hinkle in the second period. The Huskies answered with a decision at 126 pounds with Alex Spitzner defeating August Kukis 8-4.

Alex Knusel (NC, 132) won a solid major decision over Cam Clark 9-0. Ethan Jones (NC, 138) scored a second period fall over Andres Lau. The pin was enough to mathematically secure the victory for the Redhawks. In the final match of the night, Junior Tommy Porter (NC, 145) returned to the varsity line-up to defeat Jake Newton by a score of 8-2.

The Redhawk Junior Varsity and freshman wrestlers won 21 of 23 matches prior to the varsity dual.


Redhawks Defeat Bolingbrook, Lose to St. Charles East

NCHS 26 – St. Charles East 30

NCHS faced off with St. Charles East and Bolingbrook at home Saturday. The first contest was against St. Charles East. The two teams split seven wins apiece but the Saints pulled out the victory based on bonus points. In the second match, the Redhawks defeated the Raiders. The two teams also split on wins, five each, but the Hawks were allowed four wins by forfeit.

Ethan Olson, 120, finished off a great weekend with a pair of decision wins on the day. He defeated Brown of Bolingbrook with a takedown in overtime to win 3-1. Ayden Lutes, 152, added two wins to his record to improve to a team leading 13-1 record on the season. Lutes scored a fall against his opponent from Bolingbrook. He also leads the team in takedowns (45) and team points (58) on the season. Shane Roth, 182, remains undefeated on the season with a record of 11-0. Roth earned two major decisions. Ty Martin, 106 added to forfeits to his record. Nick Antonietti, 220, 285 won his only match 11-2. He now has a record of 11-2.

Tommy Porter, 145 won by pin against Joe McDermott of Bolingbrook for his second varsity win this season. Ethan Pytlak, 195 scored a pin over Medina of Bolingbrook. Austin Longmire, 220, 285 won one of two matches on the day. He nearly won his heavyweight match, scoring a late takedown to tie the score at 6-6, but he was reversed in the final seconds. Senior Alex Knusel, 132 picked up a huge win against Stieb of St. Charles East, topping his opponent 3-2. Knusel tore his shoe almost completely in half during the match. He had to borrow shoes for his second match. Ethan Sentman, 113 and Haaris Khan, 170 both won by forfeit against Bolingbrook.


DeKalb Tops Naperville Central

NCHS 24 – DeKalb 43

Central (9-6, 2-1 in DVC) travelled to DeKalb for a DVC contest against one of the top teams in Illinois. NCHS won four matches and grabbed another by forfeit. Freshman Ty Martin started the dual off well for the Redhawks, working toward a convincing 6-0 decision at 106 pounds. DeKalb won the next five matches in a row. Ethan Olson, (120) fell short of his comeback bid, losing by decision 2-4. Ethan Jones earned the forfeit at 145.

Junior Ayden Lutes (152) faced off against Damien Lopez and make a contest out of the match, scoring two late takedowns against his standout opponent. The Barbs then scored a couple of pins at 160 and 170 before Senior Shane Roth won decisively at 182 pounds, locking down a fall in 54 seconds. David Pirozhnik returned to the line-up and proved his worth with a pin at 195 pounds in the second period. Austin Longmire dropped a decision at 220 pounds.

In perhaps the most exciting match of the night, Junior Nick Antonietti held on to a slim 1-0 margin to win at heavyweight. The match featured numerous scoring opportunities by both wrestlers keeping the fans at the edge of their seats.


Naperville Central Splits Triangular at Hoffman Estates Conant

NCHS 33 – Conant 36

Naperville Central (10-7, 2-1 in DVC) defeated Round Lake in the opening dual of a triangular before succumbing to Conant. Double winner Nick Antonietti (220, 285) who added two more falls to his team leading total of seven. Antonietti is second on the team in wins with a record of 14-2 on the season. Tommy Porter (138) won by fall and technical fall to improve to 4-1 on the season.

Several wrestlers won a single match and also picked up a win by forfeit. Junior David Pirozhnik (195) scored a quick fall against his opponent from Conant. Pirozhnik has improved to a record of 11-1 on the year. Ethan Olson (120) won by technical fall, 22-7. Olson has earned 37 takedowns this season, second on the team. Ayden Lutes (152) won a strange match by disqualification. Lutes was winning when his opponent was called for stalling for a third time and was subsequently disqualified by misconduct. Lutes tops the team in both wins (record 15-2) and takedowns (47). Ethan Jones (145) added a fall to his record.

Freshman Ty Martin (106) continues to impress his coaches with his progress. Martin finished the day 1-1 earning a win by fall against Conant. Anthony Pendolino (160) also finished the day 1-1 and also won by fall. Haaris Khan (170) battled to an 8-2 victory against Round Lake. Larry Stubitsch, Mitchell Kaszuba and Shane Roth are all wrestlers who added a forfeit win to their records.

The JV/F team won 13 of 16 contested matches at home against Conant. The Redhawks hold a very impressive individual match 141-29 for an 83% winning percentage. Of the 141 wins, 97 have finished by fall. Undefeated wrestlers include: Charlie Morgan (11-0), Neil Rao (9-0), Niko Epps (8-0), Michael Salvo (6-0), Gavin Bohan (5-0), Adrian Alvarado (5-0), Dominic Hautzinger (5-0), and Niko Besteiro (4-0)


Naperville Central Tops Metea

NCHS 77 – Metea 3

The Redhawks won four of five matches against DVC foe to Metea Valley to improve to 11-7 and 3-1 in the DuPage Valley Conference.

Freshman Mitchell Kaszuba (126) scored a pin in just 12 seconds to start the dual. NCHS senior Ethan Jones fell seconds short of taking down Metea’s Kenny Siwicki to tie at 138 pounds. Chris Ramirez (NC, 145) scored enough points to earn a win by technical fall, 18-3. Senior Anthony Pendolino (NC, 160) was able to plant his opponent’s shoulders to the mat for six team points. In the final match of the night, Nick Antonietti (NC 285) locked down a fall to finish the night.

At the F/JV level, the Redhawks won seven of eight matches. All seven victories were won by fall.


Central Defeats Yorkville, Falls to Chicago Marist on Senior "Night"

Naperville Central 12-9 (3-1 in DVC) honored their senior wrestlers on a Saturday morning at home prior to taking on Yorkville and Chicago Marist. Five individuals were recognized for their contributions to the Redhawk wrestling program. Ethan Jones will majoring in Phycology at DePaul University. Alex Knusel plans to study computer science at the University of Minnesota. Austin Longmire will be playing football at Carthage. Anthony Pendolino will attend Purdue University to study business. Shane Roth will be on the Gridiron at Southern Illinois University.

The triangular was competed in round-robin style with three duals happening simultaneously on two mats. Chris Ramirez (145) had an excellent day on the mat winning both of his matches. Ramirez won by fall against Marist and etched out a closely contested match against Yorkville, winning 3-1. Ramirez improves to 8-8 on the season. Several Hawk wrestlers were able to win a match and pick up another by forfeit. Ethan Olson (120) defeated his opponent from Marist and, with his forfeit, improved to 15-5. Olson remains second on the team in the takedown category with 42. Senior Ethan Jones (138) won by technical fall scoring 16 unanswered points all in the first period. Jones has a record of 6-3. Nick Antonietti (285) needed just 13 seconds to pin his opponent from Marist to increase his team leading fall total to nine. With his forfeit win, his record is 17-2. Last, but not least, Junior Ayden Lutes (152) won a big match for the Redhawks, defeating Andrew Dado by a score of 6-4. Lutes, with a record of 18-2, leads the teams in wins and takedowns (50).

Other NCHS winners include Ty Martin (106) who won by technical fall against Yorkville 17-2. Senior Alex Knusel (132) needed 44 seconds to pin his Yorkville foe. Anthony Pendolino (160) wrestled very will go defeat Yorkville 6-0. David Pirozhnik (195) scored a lightning fast pin over Yorkville in just 13 seconds tied for the fastest pin of the day.

The JV/F team won all eight matches against Yorkville and won seven of 13 against Chicago Marist.


Naperville Central Successful at JV Event

June 2, 2021

The NCHS Junior Varsity and Freshman teams travelled to Naperville North high school to participate in round robin competitions against DuPage Valley Conference opponents from Naperville North, Waubonsie Valley, Neuqua Valley, Metea Valley and DeKalb. No team scores were kept. The Redhawks won 41 matches and lost 13. Of the 41 wins, 25 were by pin, one by technical fall and five more by major decision.

There were four wrestlers who finished 3-0 in the event: Pace Goldenman (8-2 on the season), Patrick Bohan (7-0), Neal Rao (16-0), and Jacob Smetters (11-2). Goldenman and Bohan both won all three matches by fall.

Wrestlers who finished 2-0 were: Michael Salvo (10-0), Gavin Bohan (9-0), Ethan Pytlak (5-1 on JV), Hagan Taylor (12-1), Owen Keating (2-2), Charles Kuang (10-1), Charlie Morgan (16-0), Patrick Geiger (3-0), and Ty Martin. Both Morgan and Rao lead the team in wins with 16. Michael Salvo is undefeated with all ten wins by fall. Hagan Taylor has 12 wins with 11 coming by pin.

Lucas Moen and Joe Thomas finished the day 2-1. Moen leads the team in total number of matches (19) and Thomas is third on the team with total wins (14)


Naperville Central Finishes Regular Season On Top

NCHS 57 – Waubonsie Valley 9

NCHS (13-9, 4-1 in DVC) finishes second in the DuPage Valley Conference after defeating Waubonsie Valley in a make-up dual at WVHS. There were five contested matches with three wins going to the Redhawks.

Ethan Jones scored a first period fall over Broccardo at 138 pounds. Ayden Lutes followed with a first period fall over Sullivan at 152 pounds. Haaris Khan was defeated 4-6 but scored the last two takedowns in the bout. David Pirozhnik was pinned in his match. Pirozhnik was up by five before succumbing. Senior Austin Longmire bumped up to heavyweight to take on Buntin and won a tight decision 3-2.

The junior varsity and freshman teams wrestled in 17 total matches. The Redhawks were able to win 15 of them. Lucas Moen scored a takedown in the final two seconds in his match to win 10-8. Patrick Bohan secured a takedown in overtime to win 3-1. Ten of the fifteen wins were falls for the Hawks.


Naperville Central Advances Ten to IWCOA Sectional

IWCOA Regional Team Scores: Naperville Central 197, Downers Grove South 196, Naperville North 159.5, West Aurora 151, Marmion Academy 124.5, Downers Grove North 121.5, Oak Park River Forest 119, LaGrange 71, Wheaton Warrenville South 69, Hinsdale Central 54, Waubonsie Valley 29, Metea Valley 15.

The IHSA season concluded on June 12, but wrestling didn’t end for the Redhawks. The team travelled to host Naperville North High School to compete in the High School Regionals governed by the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association. Twelve schools entered at least one participant. Wrestlers that place in the top six advance to the IWCOA Sectional Tournament held next week at Elmhurst College on Saturday, June 19 with a chance to wrestle at State. The top four from sectionals will wrestle at the Bank of Springfield Center Saturday, Saturday June 26.

The Redhawks were able to win eight of the ten matches in the place round to secure the team championship. Bringing home gold for the Hawks were Ayden Lutes (152), David Pirozhnik (195) and Antonio Torres (170).

Bronze winners were Tyler Martin (106), Ethan Olson (120), Tommy Porter (132), and Nick Antonietti (285). Ethan Sentman (113) battled to a fourth place finish. Sophomore Patrick Geiger (126) took fifth and Haaris Khan (182) took sixth. Both Geiger and Khan are sectional qualifiers.

Also taking the mat for the Redhawks were Anthony Pendolino, Chris Ramirez, Charlie Morgan and Austin Longmire.


Naperville Central Sends 5 Wrestlers to State

Naperville Central advanced five individual wrestlers to the IWCOA State Tournament to be held in Springfield next week.

Top finishers for the Rehawks were Ayden Lutes and Antonio Torres who both finished in second place. Lutes won by fall over Perez of Hinsdale Central and locked down a major decision over Aparicio of Hubbard 18-7. Lutes was defeated 5-3 in the finals by Rotkvich of Mt. Carmel. Torres scored two major decisions in his effort toward the finals, defeated Pappas of WV 17-6 and Alamawi of Sandburg 15-4. Torres fell just short of a sectional championship, losing in the finals to Liberatore of Marist 5-4.

Junior Nick Antonietti earned a third place finish at 285 pounds going 3-1 on the day. After pinning Herrera of Morton, Antonietti lost in sudden victory to Lishman of West Aurora. Antonietti earned wins over Koenig of Eisenhower and Herrera (again) by fall and decision (6-1) respectively for the bronze.

At 106 pounds, freshman Tyler Martin added his name to the Wall of Fame by winning two of four matches at the sectional tournament. The key match for Martin was a third period fall over Patrick Jesse of Lyons Township in the blood round. Martin sits at 15-12 on the season. Sophomore Ethan Olson, 20-8 at 120 pounds, won two matches in a row in the wrestle-backs to punch his ticket to state. The first win was a gritty second period fall over Henry Locker of DGN. The state qualifying match was a 5-1 decision over Jalen Dunson of OPRF.

Three Central wrestlers just missed in their efforts to make the state tournament, both losing in the blood round. At 126 pounds, Patrick Geiger went 2-2 in the tournament. Geiger’s two wins were both in the consolation rounds, both by fall and both in the second periods. Geiger lost by fall in the consolation semifinals to Scolaro of Marmion. Tommy Porter, wrestling at 132 pounds, lost to Milani of Sandburg in his first match by a score of 9-0. Porter came back with two victories in the wrestle-backs. The first a 4-1 decision over Gayton-Reilly of St. Rita 4-1 and the second a 14-2 major decision over Clark of Naperville North. Porter was pinned in the consolation semifinals in the second period by Swan of DGS. David Pirozhnik, 195 lost in the quarterfinals by a score of 9-4 to Housour of WV. After receiving a bye in the wrestle-backs, Pirozhnik pinned Perry of Marmion just before time expired in the first period. Pirozhnik was defeated in the consolation semifinals to McCormick of Naperville North by a score of 17-4.

Haaris Khan, 182, finished with a record of 1-2 in the sectionals. Khan won his first match 8-5 against Rodriguez of Morton. Ethan Sentman, 113, won a wrestle-back match against Tochimani of WWS by a score of 10-6.

Antonio Torres brought home a silver medal at the IWCOA Class AAA State Wrestling Championships held at the Bank of Springfield Center, Springfield Illinois. Torres won three matches to make the finals. In the opening round, Torres scored a fall over Will Prater of Montini in the second period. The win advanced Torres to the quarterfinals where he won by major decision against Gvillo of Edwardsville 12-3. The win assured him a state place. In the semifinals, down in the third period 3-2, Torres scored a last second takedown over Wettig of Loyola to punch his ticket to the Grand March. In the finals, Torres battled to a 5-2 loss against Gillum of DeKalb.

Junior Ayden Lutes finished the season with a win at state and a final record of 24-5. Lutes won against Barracca of Glenbard North 5-3 to make the quarterfinals. Lutes lost his final two matches.

Ty Martin (106), Ethan Olson (120) and Nick Antonietti also competed at state.
