More on line in design
After you have finished your designs integrating line into existing documents, check out this link and this link. When you are done, utilize at least two of the ideas you encounter in either a design whose text describes the concept you just learned and how you use it or original material altogether (think topics as spring, impending graduation, or summer.. These all have to do with separating things, starting a new Era, etc... Good for dividing lines.) check back tomorrow for more.

Line in Design (lulz)
For this assignment, you will take a camera about the school and locate THREE (3) informational posters/flyers created in-house. In other words, not an Army, WT, etc design. These designs should be relatively bland/devoid of 'design,' so to speak, but more importantly, information-intensive. Your goal will be to re-design them, separating the design in a cleaner, more manageable format by way of line and space. You will be required to do the following:

Stylized Designs
After gaining an idea of what geometric, stylized, and abstract shapes are, you will pick a real-world object (for instance, a telephone, tree, etc.) After doing so, I will approve your object for its level of detail/difficulty so that you may move forward. From here, you will create two representations of the object in either photoshop or illustrator. One will represent the object in stylized form, and the other in geometric. Keep in mind that the geometric form should be nothing more than standard geometric shapes, straight lines, simple curves, etc.

The Golden Ratio
Though not always utilized, the Golden Ratio is something very common and very important to a designer's toolkit. Read about it here, and then construct a Golden Triangle for me.

Elements of Design - A Primer
Working in groups of 4 (and a group of 5), you will create a series of cohesive designs covering the Elements of Design. This assignment is rather open-ended; you can go all-digital, work with physical media, or do a mix of both. However, your group's separate designs must utilize common elements (typefaces, color schemes when possible, organization and size of certain text such as titles/headings/subheadings). Each member of the group will cover a separate element of design, with information found at the following links:
The following are some links for multiple elements of design that you might use additionally:
Your designs must include BOTH EXAMPLES AND SUPPORTING INFORMATION ABOUT THE CONCEPTS RELATED TO EACH ELEMENT. Don't just place an example of complementary colors in your design; actually explain to the reader what it is!
When done, your results will be compared for cohesiveness and graded accordingly. Photoshop and Illustrator are fair game, as are physical media such as posterboard, construction paper, etc., as long as they are done in a clean and professional manner.
