Photoshop Hands-On:
Save both of the pictures at the bottom of the page, then open them in Photoshop
Make a new document in Photoshop that is 1440 x 900 pixels, 300 pixels/inch, and CMYK Color
In this document, make a new, blank layer. Fill it with black.
Use Image --> Image size to resize the pictures down to a width of 1200. The height can be left at whatever number it changes to.
Copy and paste the photos in their entirety into the new document you created.
Using the quick select tool and Layer Masks, hide everything in the photos except for the people that are the main subjects of the photo.
Add the text '2012' in a font that is thick-stroked and large enough to fill the screen.
Clip both photos into the text.
Using Layer Styles, Add an outer glow and bevel/embossing to the text.
Add an outer glow to one of the people.
Use the pen tool to create a path of some sorts that includes a simple curved line below the text.
Stroke the path you just made using a brush that has a noticeable amount of scattering and spacing above 150% turned on.
BONUS: clip a hue/saturation adjustment that makes one of the people black and white.
