Academy Northwest Outdoor School: Channeled Scablands Tour, May 16-18, 2019

Post date: Nov 27, 2019 5:17:30 PM

Students of Academy Northwest will have an opportunity to see firsthand the devastation caused by the Lake Missoula Flood. We'll also see evidences left by the Ice Age and volcanic activity which was once prevalent throughout Eastern Washington and Oregon. The tour will include Dry Falls (bigger than Niagara Falls for a short time), the coulees, evidences of glaciers, and clues left behind by the catastrophic flood that finally convinced geologists that a huge flood carved out the channeled scablands, rather than gradual processes over hundreds of thousands of years. Among the most interesting features are glacial erratics, giant boulders displaced a long way from their source.
