1) Why not Minecraft?
While Minecraft has an extremely rich metagame with tutorials, Let's Play (LP) videos and lots of modding, we wanted to choose a Massively Online Game that had novels associated with it. We'll do Minecraft as a supplement in one of 2015 book clubs.
2) Why not choose another game like SWTOR ( Star Wars The Old Republic) or Lord of the Rings?
While either or those games could have supported our objectives, World of Warcraft has a very collaborative educator guild that can support in game tours and facilitate this track. This group of educators doing week professional development in World of Warcraft, creating material and running end game content. They also hold open raids on the weekend if you would like to join in.
3) Why read a World of Warcraft novel now?
World of Warcraft is also very timely. A new expansion of the game is happening on November 13th. So even if you are not playing the game, it is likely that someone you know will be playing World of Warcraft during the expansion. Also we voted after the summer book club and this book was chosen.
4) Why choose Rise of the Horde?
World of Warcraft is playing with their own storyline in the expansion on November 13th. The Rise of the Horde is the history of World of Warcraft. On November 13th, the expansion has a character traveling back in time and upsetting reality. You as the player are going back in time to correct this interference with the timeline and story told in Rise of the Horde.
