Blockchain Apps and Smart Contracts
If you didn't already notice last week, we are looking at possible impact and scenarios.
Our focus this week will be reading and discussing the game Learning is Earning 2026
Start by watching this SXSWedu Keynote, Jane McGonigal asks you to think like
a futurist and then transitions into the Learning is Earning 2026 game.
We'll discuss the game, of course, its design and engagement, what does a futurist
really do, and then the blockchain and edu scenario that is introduced by the game.
Here is the link to the 6 minute video she showed to introduce Learning is Earning.
Pull out the mobile app, Art of Game Design: Lenses
We are looking at Cards 1 - 8, 10 & 11 ( Emotion, Essential Experience, Venue, Surprise, Fun, Curiosity, Endogenous Value, Problem Solving, Holographic Design and Unification then any other cards you think apply.
Here's the Google Hangout that asks the questions for you to do this week for discussion
We will also use the questions from Learning on the Block: Could Smart Transactional Models Help Power Personalized Learning?
http://www.knowledgeworks.org/learning-block-smart-transactional-models to also look at the Learning is Earning 2026 scenario.
What made you feel hopeful or curious to learn more?
What alarmed you or sparked you to think, "Yes but?"
How do the values and priorities of each scenario's narrator match or differ from yours?
Which outcomes might you hope to enable or prevent?
What other implications do you see that the scenarios did not fully explore?
In the Blockchain Revolution, we will be reading p. 170 -211. While the book does not use education as an example, can you extrapolate
and speculate how
1) Blockchain - a distributed encrypted digital ledger that tracks and verifies basic transactions
and
2) Smart contracts - self-executing contracts stored on the blockchain can be programmed to carry out more complex transactions
might change education?
