The Blockchain
Welcome Back Everyone!
At the 2016 ISTE conference, we had Doug Levin do a playground presentation that asked us to look at the emerging technology of blockchain. For our book club we looked at the backbone of blockchain during June. We are starting up up Part 2 on Wednesday, July 6, 2016.
For July Week 1 along with the Blockchain Revolution pages 115 - 169, we will be reading and covering Learning on the Block: Could Smart Transactional Models Help Power Personalized Learning? http://www.knowledgeworks.org/learning-block-smart-transactional-models
Doug Levin shared this report with us last week just as it came out. We looked at this report for the Week 1 Google Hangout. Here's the link to the Hangout https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwIPIYOXT8w
For the discussion this week, we'll use the questions used with the four scenarios from Knowlegdeworks:
Faster Horses p. 10 - 12
Terms and Conditions Apply p. 13 - 15
Parent Power p. 16 - 18
Systemic Synergy p. 19 - 21
What made you feel hopeful or curious to learn more?
What alarmed you or sparked you to think, "Yes but?"
How do the values and priorities of each scenario's narrator match or differ from yours?
Which outcomes might you hope to enable or prevent?
What other implications do you see that the scenarios did not fully explore?
If you are new to the book club - no worries! In June, we did a dive into blockchain and bitcoin, which is available for your review. For July we are talking about the possible implications in education. So for the next 3 weeks think of yourself as a short term futurist. Go ahead and skim the report (you don't have to do a close read) and we'll start discussing it during the Hangout on Wednesday, post some questions on Thursday and give you time to read and think about it. We'll follow this pattern for the next 2 weeks adding other readings and videos.
So if you are curious, join us for the book club and start asking some questions on our google + community. http://bit.ly/metagamebookplus
Thanks!
