#METAGAME Book Club July 15 - August 16, 2014
Inevitable Instructors and the ISTE Games & Simulations Network held a summer book club from July 15 - August 16, 2014.
It involved reading publications, a really great book, going to websites, watching videos, and even going in games. So there is no question about it – the #metagame book club is a Book Club +.
This book club had 2 tracks:
The first track is on scholarly readings about Game Studies (great for English and Humanities teachers), and the track will be facilitated by Sherry Jones, the creator of the Rhetoric and Games MOOC or rgMOOC.
For the first track, we recommended purchasing the book, The Meaning of Video Games: Gaming and Textual Strategies by Steven E. Jones, to participate in upcoming Game Studies discussions. Additional reading excerpts from other scholarly books as well as a variety of open access reading materials will be provided to accompany and enhance your reading experience.
The Meaning of Video Games: Gaming and Textual Strategies by Steven E. Jones
The second track was facilitated by the educator’s gaming guild, Inevitable Betrayal.
The book for the second track, is the young adult book, For the Win by Cory Doctorow (great for economics, social studies and anyone looking to engage their students in reading). It is also gives an insider look into massively multi-player online role-playing games (MMOs and MMORPGs). Vasili Giannoutsos will lead up the literary discussion with Kristina Thoennes and Trish Cloud. The Inevitable Betrayal guild will livestream from World of Warcraft the endgame play described in the book. For the Win, also goes delves into virtual economics. From World of Warcraft, Chris Luchs and Kae Novak will livestream how the economy functions in a global online game.
For The Win is available on Kindle, in print or you can download the free version at http://craphound.com/ftw/download/
