Welcome to Week 2!
This week you'll be reading Level 2 in Ready Player One. But first, here is another 80s flashback video of Safety Dance. Feel free to start pogoing along as there are no bouncers to stop you now! :)
Now that you are all exhausted and out of breath, here is the Week 2 Overview and the link to the slides whilst you recover.
Ready player One - Week 2 overview from center4edupunx
So how is "gunting" going for both you and Wade? So far you've found the Copper Key. Now Wade and others are trying to find the second key. Can you figure out where it is before it's too late?
The captain conceals the Jade Key
in a dwelling long neglected
But you can only blow the whistle
once the trophies are all collected
Ready Player One
As mentioned above you will be reading Level 2, which includes pages 166 - 266. As you've no doubt found by now, while it looks like a lot of pages they flow pretty fast.
Hint: For Wade, solving the second key's riddle involves Interactive Fiction game, Zork so.. we've got Zork on tap for you this week. Check it out below.
Continue your quest by taking the test.
Discussion Questions
1) Continue your quest by taking the test. What if students had to do a game or a simulation instead of a test? How would that change the way we teach? How would it change how they learn?
2) How close are we to Wade's virtual reality life and quantified self?
3) We've read 226 pages so far. What are some of the socioeconomic themes that are prevalent?
How does this stack up against what you currently see in today's media? What about other dystopian literature/games you have read or played? Has there been any hope offered at the end?
