In the name of God amen, the xxith day of October in the year of our lord 1558 I John of Burdinhall in the parish of South Newton, being sick of body but whole of mind and memory do make this my last will & testament in manner and form following. First I bequeath my soul to almighty God and to our blessed lady Saint Mary and to all the holy company of heaven and my body to be buried in the churchyard of South Newton. Item I bequeath to the same church of Newton ii ewes and two lambs. Item to the church of Saint Mary in Wilton a ewe & a lamb. Item I bequeath to Edythe Clyde a ewe & a lamb. Item I bequeath unto John Meade a ewe and a lamb. Item I bequeath to Margaret Palmor ii bushels of barley. Item I bequeath to Alice Lyght iii bushels of wheat & iii bushels of barley. Item I bequeath to William Clyde a quarter of barley. Item I give unto Thomas Mede of Wilton my best coat, my best hosen and my best shirt & my best shoes. The rest of my goods not given nor bequeathed, moveable and unmoveable, I give & bequeah unto Elizabeth my wife whom I make my whole executor and she is to give unto my children as she thinketh good. These witness Simon Gandy and Alexander Thitherthorn & for their pains taking I give to either of them iii bushels of wheat.

1564 Philip Meade of Winsley, Bradford on Avon

In the name of God amen, the xxth day of January in the year of our lord God 1561 I Philp Meade of Winsley in the diocese of Sarum make my testament & last will in this manner. First I bequeath my soul to almighty God my maker & redeemer and my body to be buried in the churchyard of Saint Michaels of Winsley aforesaid. Also I give & bequeath to Robert Meade my son a wether sheep, a plough rope & a share. The residue of all my goods not bequeathed I give & bequeath to Jane my wife & I do make her my whole executrix & to distrubute part of my goods for my soul's health as she thinketh good to the pleasure of God. These beareth witness Richard Webb, clerk, Robert Wyllis & John Dicke with other more.

In the name of God amen, in the year of our lord God 1570 & in the xxvith of March I Elizabeth Mede widow of Burthinhall in the parish of South Newton being of good and perfect memory do make this my last will & testament in this manner. First I bequeath my soul unto almighty God & my body to be buried at the parish of South Newton. Item I give to the same church of Newton one bushel of wheat. Item I give to Thomas Heyter's daughter Elizabeth iii wether sheep. Item I give to Mary Heytar iii wether sheep. Item I give to Anne Heytar my daughter one russet frock, ii petticoats, iii kerchers. Item I give to William Heyter my daughter's son v wether sheep, one bullock the age of ii years. Item I give to Alice Farlye my kinswoman my best russet frock. Item I give to Richard Heyter, Anne Heyter's son, v wether sheep. Item I give to Thomas Heiter my son in law ii bushels of wheat, ii bushels of barley. Item I give to the church of Saint Mary in Wilton one bushel of wheat. Item I give to John Greste one bushel of weat. Item I give to Henry Heyter of Fovant one bushel of wheat. Item I give & bequeath the residue of my goods unbequeathed to William Nycol & Edith his wife whom I make & ordain my sole executors of this my last will & testament. I make these mine overseers Richard Rodman & Water Sharpe & to see this my last will & testament fulfilled I give to either of them ii bushels of wheat. Item I give to Margaret Farlye iii yards of russet cloth. Item I give to the poor within Wilton xiid to be given in bread. Item I give to the poor within South Newton xiid in bread. These being witnesses Richard Rodman, Walter Sharpe & Thomas Haiter with others.

1571 Richard Meade, husbandman of Turleigh, Winsley, Bradford on Avon

In the name of God amen, the xiith day of September in the year of our lord God 1570 I Richard Meade of Tyrlen within the parish of Winsley in the county of Wilts, husbandman, being whole of mind and in perfect memory, laud and praise be given to almighty God, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say first I bequeath my soul to almighty God and my body to buried in the churchyard of Winsley aforesaid. Item I will and my mind is that all such duties and debts as I owe of right and conscience to any person or persons after my decease by mine executrix be well and niftly contented and paid or else ordain it is to be paid without delay or contradiction. Item I bequeath to my son Richard Meade a mare, a heiffer and xx bushels of wheat. Item I bequeath to my son Paul Meade my best coat and my best hosen and two bushels of wheat. Item I bequeath to my son Thomas Meade two bushels of wheat. Item I bequeath to my daughter Alice ten sheep. Item I bequeath to the dughter of my son Edward Meade one sheep. Item I bequeath to our lady church of Salisbury iiiid. The rest of all my goods and chattels movable and unmovable unbequeathed I give unto my wife Dorothy whom I make and ordain my full executrix of this my last will and testament. And these be witnesses hereunto John Misston, William Drust and David Atkins with others.

In the name of God, amen, anno domino 1601, the seventh day of February in the the and fortieth year of the reign of our most dear sovereign lady Elizabeth by the grace of God of England, France and Ireland Queen, defender of the faith, etc., I George Meade of Tollerd Ryall in the county of Wiltshire, clerk, being sick in body but of good and perfect memory, praised be unto God, do make my last will and testament in this manner and form following. Imprimis I give to the poor people of Tollerd Ryall aforesaid forty shillings. Item I give to my son Tobias the younger twenty pounds. Item I give unto my son William twenty pounds. Item I give unto my daughter Margery twenty pounds. Item I give unto my daughter Elizabeth twenty pounds. Item I give to George Harrys my daughter’s son one cow. Item I give unto Alice Abbet my wife’s daughter one heifer bullock. All the other of my goods and chattels, moveable and unmoveable, my debts paid and my legacies performed, I give to my son John Meade, whom I make my whole executor of this my last will and testament, and do appoint these my trusty friends Thomas Meade my brother, William Curtis and Henry Harrys to be supervisors of this my last will and testament, witnessing hereunto William Clerke, clerk, Thomas Randoll, John Parler.
