Goldhurst

Goldhurst family

The idea of this page is to gather as much information as possible about the Goldhurst/Gouldhurst family. Basically, I'm stuck with Richard Mead in Watford, so I'm trying to see if I can trace where he came from through his wife, Margaret Gouldhurst.

I don't know much about her, not even her maiden name. She had been married before marrying Richard Mead, as can be seen from his will: "Item I give to my wife's two

daughters vi s viii d apiece."

Goldhurst is a fairly uncommon name, possibly deriving ultimately from the "manor of Bukhurst alias Goldhurst" in Chigwell, Essex. Or possibly it's from Goudhurst, Kent, which is sometimes Gouldhurst. In the IGI there are just 9 christenings before 1600:

Saint Martin In The Fields, Westminster (on Trafalgar Square)

1553 Elizabeth Goldhurst

1557 Ann Goldhurste

1558 Elizabeth Goldhurste

1561 Joan Goldhurst

1564 Alice Goldhurste

1567 Henry Goldhurst

1568 Richard Goldhurst

Saint Margaret Westminster (by Westminster Abbey)

1539 Mar. Agnes Goldhurst christened

1540 Mar. William Goldhurst christened

1541 May. Alice Goldhurst buried

There are some Meads at about the same time in St Margarets, Westminster:

1550 June. John Meade christened

1550 Aug. John Meade buried

1551 Dec. Clapton Meade christened

1553 Sep. Alice Meade buried

1555 Jul. Joan Meade married Thomas Leeke

1566 Jane Meade christened
