Next meeting Friday 10th July 10.00hrs Littleover Grange Hall Community Centre
Littleover Historical Society July 2026 News
In July we hope to plan some time out in the open, researching our Boundary project, looking at the Littleover Parish boundary around 1850 which remained relatively stable prior to the many changes just before the turn of the century. This time it might not be as easy as following streams and the variety of trees which are usually boundary markers. We'll be venturing into the South East corner of Littleover where Derby Borough Council, as it was then, decided in the late 1930s to build a dual carriageway claiming a huge chunk of Littleover.
This time we only have an 1899 map to go on, which is much later than the period we are looking at. However, we do know that Uttoxeter Road was completed in 1843 and the cemetery further down Uttoxeter Road was completed in the same year. There is also a Derbyshire Rifle Volunteer Barracks built in 1859 and The Teachers Training College in 1850, so the road was well established during the time we are studying.
