Littleover World War One Commemoration

Post date: Oct 27, 2012 10:04:13 AM

David Cameron reminded us all that in 2014, it will be the 100th Anniversary of the Great War, later known as the First World War. As a local history society, the Littleover History Group would like to commemorate this event by bringing together local people’s family memories, photos, documents and memorabilia (e.g. medals) along with historical records from published sources to paint a picture of the Littleover village just at the outbreak of the war.

We would also like to hear about Littleover residents who fought in WW1.

With the 1911 Census, Lloyd George’s Land Tax survey, the burnt records, medal card index, newspapers, the War Memorial, and other contemporary documents there is a wealth of information available to those interested. However, families often have medals, personal photos, property deeds, and military service records etc. that allow a much richer picture of the village and its people to be painted.

We need your help.

Though we can do some of the research as a society we need others who want to help up collect and collate this information, make sense of it, and publish it to help remember those who fought in the war and the effect it had on the little village of Littleover. Remember, Littleover only became part of Derby in 1968: before then it was an agricultural village on its own.
