Bretton Av and Constable Lane Wall

Why are the retaining walls which run along Constable Lane and on into Bretton Avenue called the "Hitler Wall" ?

The stone wall has a letter "H" every five blocks on three main courses. The walls were built by prisoners of war around 1946 when the pre-fabs were erected. It is believed locally that these apparent "H" motifs were installed secretly to proclaim continued allegiance to Hitler.

In 1946 there was a prisoner of war camp nearby at Sunnyhill and at Woolaton Park near Nottingham.

It would be of interest if anyone has additional knowledge about this wall and those who built it
