Volunteers aided by a lottery grant have started the massive task of cataloging and digitising the photographic records of Winters.

These are a very significant photographic history of Derby and its Citizens dating from the late 1800's.

The oldest photographs are on glass slides, some being over 2ft by 18 inches and many cracked or broken. Volunteers have been restoring as many as possible out of the three tons found in the basement.

A few have been printed and show scenes of Ancient Derby in great clarity. Even the broken slides have yielded such gems as a steam lorry distributing SPA drinks from Burrows and Sturgess.

There is a wealth of information to be gleaned from this archive which will still take many years to complete but will be brought forward if further support is offered.
