August brought some good wind to Lake Mohawk and our sailors were ready to take advantage of it. On August 19, the Lightnings sailed two races. In Race 1, Rich Miner took first place with Perry Anderson second and Brent Cherry in third position. Spurred on and seeking a win, Perry Anderson came in first in Race 2 followed by Rich Miner in second place and Brent Cherry third. The Snipes also competed in two races with Tim Mackey first and Chris Mackey second in both events. On August 26 Rich Miner and Perry Anderson match raced their Lightnings in two events. Rich Miner captured two firsts with Perry taking second place in both races.

September began with our Commodore’s Cup on the second. The wind was moderate, out of the southwest. John Miller, assisted by Ian Oldridge, set a triangle course with marks to port and six boats competed in two races. With the handicaps, the results were close. Rich Miner, in a Lightning, won the event followed closely by Perry Anderson in a Lightning in second place and Tim Mackey in a Snipe taking third. Constance Gill was very competitive in her Snipe as was Chris Mackey. Don Okner raced his Lightning, with Sue Hauck and Hank Jelinek crewing. Teams Miner and Anderson are shown in the photo with John Miller.

Following an afternoon of racing, members and crew celebrated at our annual Commodore’s Party, hosted by Margaret and Perry Anderson. Everyone brought a dish to share so the hors d'oeuvres, main courses and desserts were plentiful and tasty. We sincerely thank Margaret and Perry for their hospitality.

We still have more racing scheduled for 2018. Race official duty is posted at the club and on our web site. LMYC members are asked to check and note their assignments for race official duty. Race officials for October, 2018 are as follows:

Oct 07 Reassigned or J. Marx

Oct 21 Reassigned or J. Fleming
