Post date: Aug 1, 2008 1:37:01 PM

On February 24th the executive board held an organizational meeting at the home of Rich and Gail Miner and charted plans for the 2002 season. Reports from the officers and fleet captains were followed by scheduling the first event for the year, our annual Clean Up! This unexciting, but all important task will take place on Saturday, April 20th commencing at 9:00 AM. All members are requested to attend. The rain date for the Clean Up will be the following Saturday, April 27th.

On April 20th , during the evening, we will have our first social event, the Prep Signal. This is a pot luck dinner held at the Lake Mohawk Country Club. Everyone planning to attend should bring a covered dish to share. Soft drinks, beer and wine will be provided by the Yacht Club. This is a casual, family activity which affords our members and crews the opportunity to regroup after the winter break from sailing. A brief business meeting will also be held.

Racing will commence on Sunday, May 5th and will continue through Sunday, October 13th. The season will be divided into two series, Spring and Fall. There will be two races on each day starting at 1:00 P.M.. A list of race officials will be posted at the club and on our web site. The race officials for the month will also be published in the Papoose. Race officials are asked to call Don Okner, Race Committee chairman if any changes in assignments are needed.

We are planning three Regattas which will be open to all LMCC members with a sailboat of any kind. Scoring is on a handicapped basis so virtually any boat can be a winner. The first Regatta will be the Gabor Cup, sponsored by the Lightning Fleet, on Sunday, May 26th. The Marine Base Regatta will be on July 7th and the Commodore’s Cup Regatta on September 1st. These Regattas will coincide with regular racing with registration at 12:00 P.M and the first gun at 1:00 P.M..

The Sailing School program will involve Basic, Advanced and Adult instruction. Basic Sailing will run for 6 weeks this summer, starting June 24th and ending August 1st. Classes will be held three days a week, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. We will have two sections, one in the morning from 9:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., and one in the afternoon from 1:15 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Students may register for either section since both will offer the same curriculum. The charge per student is still only $250.

Advanced Sailing instructions will also run for 6 weeks, starting June 26th and ending August 2nd. Classes will be held two days a week, on Wednesday and Friday afternoons, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be only one section and we will need a minimum of 6 students to enroll. So if you are interested, please call without delay so we can judge whether we will have enough interest to run this program. The charge for this program is only $195.

Adult Sailing instructions will be scheduled to meet the time constraints and skill levels of the students. Classes will be held on Wednesday, Friday or Saturday mornings and will typically include 3 to 6 sessions depending on the needs of the students. The price will depend upon the number of students and classes taken. Last year’s students paid $75 for three full morning classes with between 2 to 5 students per class.

For more information about the Sailing School, please visit our web site or call Perry Anderson at 973-729-3904 or Gail or Rich Miner at 973-729-5283.

Board Meetings are tentatively scheduled for May 19th, June 16th, July 14th, August 18th and September 15th and will commence at 7:30 P.M. The Annual Meeting is tentatively scheduled for October 13th and the Awards Brunch for November 24th. The Family Picnic will be scheduled to coincide with the Independence Day fireworks.

As you can see, we will have a fun packed season for all. For up to date information, or if you have not yet joined and are thinking about membership in our club you will want to visit our web site at: www.lakemohawksailing.org. Also, you can E-mail us at: info@lakemohawksailing.org.

Until next month, smooth sailing and God Bless America!
